Another great opportunity!

My name is Tracey Charles and I work at Shumway Elementary in Chandler. A few weeks ago I visited your booth at the Macaroni Kids Day Off Chandler event. I thought your book Paxton & Mali Find Their Boat was wonderful. Here at Shumway we have a great event called Read Under the Stars. For this event we invite students, parents and the Chandler Fire Department to come out and enjoy a night of reading under the stars. We would like to invite you as our special guest. We would love to give our student the opportunity to sit with you, read and share your book. You would be more than welcome to set up a table to sell your book as well. Please let me know if you are interested in joining us. Read Under the Stars Thursday, October 23rd 5-6:30PM Shumway Elementary

Goddard School- Chandler

What a fun and inspiring experience, I love sitting among kids with limited attention spans and trying to lure them into a story that I wrote. It is invigorating when ask questions, tell their own stories and have fun with the experience at hand. On Monday these kids glowing with excitement brought me to why I write in the first place. Not only to get my story and creativity out there, to hope to inspire others, but as a mechanism to portray my inner self. Someone asked me why children's books. I LOVE to read, I think that I have learned a lot over the years just by reading and I think it is important for my son to learn the value of reading and what better way for his mom to contribute then with a series of books for kids. I think I just might be on my way to #2. I have to do a little prepping to get the funds to accomplish this, but now I am ready to start. Thank you to the Goddard School for inviting me to read and share and to Gary Klayman for having me attend his daughter's school. Thank you to the teachers and students for listening! My favorite story/question this experience was the girl who talked about a scorpion for really no related reason! Love those... Still my favorite was the school where the girl asked my favorite kind of pie!!!!!!!!! Read on my friends.

Flink Lake Elementary in Valparaiso, IN

Thanks to my childhood friend Cassie and her sister Lindsay I was able to also visit Flint Lake Elementary School this past week and read to the Kindergarten and 1st grades! The children were attentive and fascinated by my story. They learned about what a publishing company is and the process associated with writing and publishing a book. They had the opportunity to take home order forms to order a copy and I eagerly await the results. Their school will receive $1 per book given back to the school! It is refreshing to see such great teachers working to educate our country's children! Keep up the good work!

I made the NW Indiana Times Newspaper

I MADE THE PAPER

Return to SJE- Student Turned Author Visits School

What a welcoming I had on Monday when I returned to SJE after not attending since the 5th in the 1980's. I read my book to Pre-K to 2nd Grader. It was a blast listening to the kids and reading in each individual classroom! I had a chance to say hi to my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Adams who still teaches there. Renee in Marketing and the preschool teacher MaryTherese were incremental in my visit. The Northwest Indiana Times and the Northwest Indiana Catholic also came to interview and take pictures. I felt like a celebrity! Reading to the kids and telling the kids about the writing process as well as emphasizing the importance of imagination in a child's growth were definite highlights of my trip! We also entertained a coloring contest that each grade participated in for a coloring book prize version of Paxton and Mali Find Their Boat. There were 4 winners from Pre-K, K, 1st and 2nd grade!
